At Enabling Technology Solutions, we’re always exploring ways to support independence and dignity through assistive and enabling technology. One area that’s often overlooked—but critically important—is oral hygiene. For individuals with limited mobility, tremors, or reduced dexterity, brushing teeth independently can be a challenge. That’s where a tool like the auto brush come in.
Ezra Reynolds, one of our assistive technology professionals recently filmed a short demonstration of a hands-free toothbrush, showing how it works and why it might be a game-changer for people with disabilities. You can watch the video here: Auto Brush for Oral Accessibility: Quick Demo
This device uses a soft silicone mouthpiece combined with sonic vibrations to clean all teeth at once. No complicated hand motions, no manual brushing. Just add toothpaste, place the mouthpiece in your mouth, press a button, and let the brush do the work. It typically runs for about 30 seconds—enough time for a thorough clean.
We see potential for this tool in a range of situations:
- For individuals with limited hand control or grip strength
- As part of a simplified hygiene routine for people with developmental disabilities
- To support caregivers by reducing the need for physical assistance during brushing
It’s not a perfect solution for everyone, but it’s one more tool we can add to our enabling technology toolbox.
If you’re curious whether this kind of device might benefit someone you support, or you’d like to explore other assistive solutions for hygiene, home control, or communication, we’re here to help. Reach out to us anytime.
